I didn't have high hopes for them but they have changed my tires' ability to grip ice. I ride a late 80's Suzuki Samurai with 33" tires on icy roads near my village in Kasigluk, West Alaska. They don't keep out snow as far as I can tell, but they're great when it gets warm and there's water on the ice of lakes and rivers. It happens a few times a year, but this year it was particularly warm (warm = bad for traveling). A tip is that the dimensions shown include the head of the screw. I bought a 3/8" bolt but wish I had bought more, like 1/2" or 5/8". I knew shorter bolts come out more often but I was afraid of damaging a tire I will probably continue to use them in the center of the tread and buy a slightly longer set of screws for the outside edges where the lugs are larger. You drill them yourself could start, the screw just fell on the ground before I drove it into the tire. I ended up using a good pair of pliers and just hand screwed it in and it worked really well, about 10 seconds or less per screw. I dialed in Basic pattern and applied it to all 4 tires in the same way.I haven't had any problems and after almost 100 miles of riding over the past few months I've only lost about 10-15% of them.Note that I'm not over 35 driving miles per hour and higher speeds would probably kick her out more.
