I've seen so many reports of removing a thin layer on records. I am NOT saying that! The best I found was a bit of film, which in itself didn't affect the panel and was part of the package. But even if there's a little movie I'm missing, why take it off? It seems to me that this will be a protective layer that will not affect the solar panel itself. It would be weird if it was polarized or something, but I know it works as advertised. also with the supposed film. Maybe they stopped placing the film that was causing problems, or maybe I didn't use it enough to notice, but everything works great, out of the box.
