My kid needed a bigger sandal so I ordered a size up from his current size that he wears. However, they are too big. They're just embarrassed to do my leg length and I have a big leg for a woman. So I definitely wouldn't consider them a "big kid" size. The shoes themselves are a good flip flop. They seem to have a sturdy sole and a nice wide leg strap. The sandals are lightweight and I think they will make a great shoe that will last if you find the right size for your child's foot.
