Review on 🐠 Exploring Learning Fun with Fisher-Price Smart Seahorse Blue: A Clever Companion for Infants and Toddlers by Brandi Walker

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Updated: Cautiously Optimistic

UPDATE: There seems to be some changes to the app but I still haven't been able to get it working after the February update. However, I recently got a new phone and it's working great now. *crosses fingers* I don't know how Fisher Price is different from my old phone but I'm glad it's finally working again as you can see in the second photo. However, you still cannot play your own music. That ability alone would be an automatic five-star rating. I'd like to include real lullabies or classical music instead of short snippets of tinny midi-style melodies that are pre-programmed into the Seahorse. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The seahorse itself works well. Squeeze his stomach and the music and lights will turn on. When I bought it as a Christmas present for my kid last month, the app was pretty clunky, but it worked well. I was able to access the main functions to increase or decrease the brightness and volume, and set it to play music for 10 or 20 minutes. The only way I could even play my music was through my phone through the app. And it really didn't make sense, because if I wanted to listen to music on my phone, I'd do it without the Fisher Price app. It would be fun to play our own lullaby through the seahorse itself, but oh well. Baby still loves it and the pre-programmed music isn't too bad. *shrugs* Anyway, everything was fine until a few days ago Fisher Price decided to release an update for their app, apparently without properly testing it. I had to create a Fisher Price account to log in (eye) and then reconnect to the seahorse. But what is it? The seahorse cannot connect. I only get an error message (picture). every time I've tried everything. After uninstalling and reinstalling the app, turning the Seahorse off and on again, turning Bluetooth off and on again, and reading all of the questions and answers in their Troubleshooting/FAQ section, I even tried interacting with their in-app virtual assistant connect (which starts to connect, then shuts down almost immediately every time). To be honest I am very disappointed. I expected more from Fisher Price/Mattel. If they ever fix the app I'll come back and edit my review, but for now I'm pretty much left with a more expensive version of the cheaper basic seahorse toy that I didn't pay for.
