This item is manufactured to be very safe. There is no nut that can withstand this - in fact, you could use it to smash nuts like a hammer. The only downside I've found is that the end of the "bolt" is so smooth that a rounded or smooth-shelled nut (e.g. a pecan) can slip out when pressure is applied. The nut is in a hole in the bottom of the cracker so it won't slide out easily, but the top rotates when it rotates down and it's very smooth so nothing can catch the nut from the top. It would have been better if the top end had a dimple or notch to hold the nut in place.
