I work on the road, I was transferred from the pipe laying team to the priming team for a month and I didn't have access to a fridge. This backpack rocks. Cold drinks from the fridge were still cool enough at the end of a 12-hour day to make you sweat. When I add a standard ice pack, they are COLD and the bag doesn't leak. The side pockets held the coffee mug in place and despite a lot of abuse the packaging still hasn't leaked. I've had standard soft coolers that I tried to be careful with, but they couldn't stand it either. Plenty of room for 8-10 20oz Arizona bottles and groceries and snacks in the back. The zipper works despite constant exposure to mud and clay. Disadvantages: little space in the front 2 pockets. It would be better if the main compartment protruded more as it gets cramped when filling the cooler part of the backpack. However, I managed to stuff things like my glasses, a can of food, silverware, twinks (I don't mind shallow twinks!), bits and bobs. An additional zippered front pocket accommodated a USB power adapter and cables well, although it was cramped due to the main pocket. Overall this is NOT a deterrent to the fact that this backpack is great. So now I'm back with my team, and even though I have access to a standard cooler, I'm still going to use that bad boy.
