I had to practice a little first. I've found that if I cut circles out of paper that's too thin (like tissue paper) or not wide enough to fill the circle, the thickness isn't thick enough to grab everything, causing the needle to fall out of the machine when the operation is complete. last step. But as long as you cut out a big enough circle from thick enough paper (or use multiple layers) it's reliable. I love it and will be making lots of pins for different projects! Edited to add: the circle cutter is useless - so cheap it doesn't even stick together. I didn't manage to cut a usable circle once. So you need another way to cut circles.
