Slightly larger than I thought it would be. Very durable. I got this because I wanted something that could be flatter but also packable. I don't need a cool day, just something I can keep cool for a few hours like a sandwich or salad. I don't even bother with ice packs. Works bad. It doesn't leak. I prepare everything I need, including a drink, the night before and leave it open in the fridge. In the morning I throw in everything that can get wet (pretzels etc.), roll it up and throw it in my bag. the drink is still cold until midday, the food chilled. This is a great lunch bag, not a fridge (again, I didn't use ice packs). I have a 16 ounce steel bottle plus Nalgene 32 and some Tupperware plus snacks. because of the thickness of the material. If you only fill it halfway and try to collapse it, it doesn't really want to collapse. But you could do it like this. Not sure I'd want to go that route for a shoulder bag, but it's fine for a backpack. Based on my research and testing I would say that for a shoulder bag you would need 2 soft chilled skinny lunch boxes. Rather, I would wish for that if I were to use a shoulder bag. EDIT: The downside is that soft chilled thin things have zips and leaks. So I remember why I rode it anyway. It doesn't leak. EDIT: I noticed something when I was taking less food to work. Because of the way the buckle strap attaches, the top of the bag doesn't want to fold over more than once before hitting the strap mount. In other words, if it is not very full, it will create a better seal if rolled more than 1 time. The attachment of the front strap should be lower, this will easily solve this problem. However, folding it once keeps the food sufficiently chilled until midday. What I noticed would be an improvement.
