Good hardware, great support

I bought this headset to replace a Plantronics mono headset I've had for over a decade - the second battery finally ran out of charge. While there wasn't much to say about the old headset, it was good enough to last me for a decade. But since I either needed a new battery or a new headset, I thought I'd rather treat myself to a headset. I looked at many reviews of different brands and models. When I'm reviewing products I'm about to buy, I go through a series of mental filters. I usually start with a simple filter – look at the total number and distribution of customer reviews and compare the number of 4/5 star reviews to the number of 1 and 2 star reviews. When I see a very positive consensus, I start digging through the 1/2 star reviews to see if they are real issues or if it could be user error. a few 1/2 star reviews. At the time of writing this review, they ran on the price (yes, it seems high, but I'm a little more forgiving) rather than the automatic response when picking up the headset (which is the default, which can easily be fixed), short battery life (the representative of the seller quickly contacted the buyer to rectify the situation), as well as poor fit and sound quality. Finally, before making a decision, I made sure the headset was compatible with my office phone (Cisco CP8841). Based on my rating of reviews, confirmed compatibility, and proactive support in the "Reviews" section, I decided to purchase. I thought if I had problems I would have a support network. I was encouraged to receive an email from Headsets.com the day after receiving the headset with a direct support hotline should I need it. A few days later I received another email offer from Headsets.com's Joe Randazzo for headset concierge (in case I need absolutely EVERYTHING). I can say that they care about their customers. I received the headset last Friday and charged it at home before going to work on Monday. On Monday morning I got to work and started setting up the headset. I've noticed that some of the positive reviews even mention that installation can be a bit tricky; So I carefully read this section of the manual. I had a few false starts but it didn't take long to get back on my feet. I also connected the USB to the computer and switched to the PC to see how it works. It was practical that I didn't need a separate headset for occasional listening on the computer (e.g. for online training). The only trick is to remember to switch the headset source back to the phone - pilot error ;). I've only been using the headset for a few days, but I really like it. I agree with some reviewers that the prices are a bit high, but I think part of that goes to the customer service. However, there are probably other high-end headsets that cost less, and I'm taking a star off for the price alone. So if you find this model expensive and don't think you need a high level of support, you might be able to do better - on the other hand, if you want to know you have a support network to help you get it the best out of your headset, it might be worth it for you. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase.
