This is a lovely little canopy for a child over the age of three if not four. This creates a small retreat for them, a playground, just as you wish, but the material is actually very, very transparent. Of course it looked a bit see-through in the photos, but not so see-through as if there was nothing there. It's very, very transparent so the child doesn't feel like they have their own space because they can see everything around them very clearly. Usually these are rather half-hearted, rather average in transparency and opacity. It's just that it's very transparent. This is a decent dome and matches the description in all other respects except that it is very thin. It is like a bed mosquito net that offers no privacy change. The solid fabric means you can't see your baby when inside, so it's not a start, but it goes in a whole different direction where it's completely transparent. If that's what you're looking for, this is a great option. If you're looking for more of a little fortress feel, a little private area where you can see them but feel like they have some privacy, then this doesn't work. Good luck with your search.
