Last night the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a list of food brands and ingredients that can cause DCM in dogs. Severe heart disease that can be fatal. Once diagnosed, they need treatment for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, the second dangerous ingredient believed to cause this disease is one of the top five ingredients in this food. These ingredients are thought to reduce the required levels of taurine in dogs that cause DCM. see her vet today for an exam and schedule a heart echo test to make sure she hasn't developed DCM. A friend of mine has a dog that developed this disease on one of the brands on the FDA list. So I'm really worried, but I'm hoping for the best. I am enclosing charts published by the FDA showing data on breeds that have developed this disease and the type of food/ingredients present in the food that have been associated with cases of canine DCM. I got rid of my 3 month supply of Diamond Naturals. I bought. And even our local animal shelter has eliminated products with these ingredients since the FDA released their statement yesterday. 6/28/19 I hope the company removes this ingredient from their formula. This was the best food for the price but not worth my dog's life.
