If you have assembled Ikea bookcases in the past you can skip the instructions. Very easy to assemble, mine is real wood not chipboard but use hand tools and don't overtighten or you might rip something as ash is a soft wood. I use it as a small desk (no storage compartment). behind the sofa in our home cinema. It goes perfectly with mugs and controllers, and I can sit and work on my laptop while my wife plays games. All of our basement furniture is missionary, so I had to find something to match. For me the storage compartment hit my knees so I didn't use it. If you look closely you can see the holes that the screws should fit in, but the shelf is not load bearing due to the supports at the bottom. I had an old shelf and attached the shelf to the wall as the finish suits the space.
