I've been using this laptop stand for a few weeks with my 17" laptop and it's very stable. It takes a lot of force to get your hands in the desired position but that's it good because after that they don't change position.I don't see a way to adjust the friction setting on my hands but I only use it on my desk and keep it in the same position all the time.I like it when the laptop screen is higher so I don't have to bend my neck to look at it. The non-slip pads both under the stand (in contact with the table) and on top of my laptop work very well. This is a simple but very effective design. Very happy with my purchase.
