Review on πŸ”Š Nobsound G2 Mini Subwoofer Power Amplifier - 100W PBTL, BTL Bridge for Home Theater by Stephanie Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent replacement subwoofer

With this amp I have replaced a burnt out amplifier module in my active subwoofer Energy ESW-8. Doesn't sound as good as the factory Energy amp, but pretty close. There's a slight hum at low volume, but when the music is on and the bass is pumping, you don't really notice it. The output is impressive - I have the gain set to minimum and the volume is about halfway up and my subwoofer gets loud enough. It appears to match the factory power amplifier module in the ESW-8 which was rated at 100W (200W peak). ) mode. The constant low hum from this amp is also pitched higher in PBTL mode than in Sub mode. In Sub mode, the low-pass crossover is very effective, but the frequencies aren't marked on the front panel, so you have to guess where your cutoff point is. The amp's bass crossover has a slope of 12dB/octave in the range of about 40-200Hz. I use this amp with the LFE output of my receiver, so I set the amp to full-range mode (PBTL) and use it the LFE crossover of the receiver. very easy and cheap. This is a regular laptop style device rated at 19V and 4.7 amps. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual peak power of the PSU is much lower than the advertised 4.7 amps due to the PSU's small size and light weight. The total power output of the power supply is 89W (19V x 4.7A), so even using this power supply, the amplifier cannot output more than 85W. The amplifier is designed for a 12-24V supply and you will likely need a larger 24V/5A power supply to get the advertised 100W output power. However, online forums and reviews indicate that 19V is probably the best option for the TPA3116 chip. Overall, this amp is a real bargain. It makes an excellent replacement for a powered subwoofer's internal amplifier and could power some modest bookshelf speakers. There's some hum, but it's imperceptible at the listening volume. The selectable sub/full range mode is a great extra feature and the selectable gain switches are the icing on the cake. Great purchase and I would buy it again.
