Waterproof/durable mattress protector. I've used it for nighttime potty training since our cribs were converted to toddler cribs. I washed it first (wash in cold water, then tumble dry with the rest of the clothes in normal condition) and it held up in the dryer without shrinking. While the mattress pad isn't soft, it gets the job done, and honestly, who needs it when it has to be over the mattress and under the sheet. We've had a couple of major falls so far and everything underneath has stayed dry. I'm making a double bed (mattress, mattress topper, sheet, 2nd mattress topper, 2nd mattress topper) and it still fits in that extra layer. It appears to be fairly waterproof, although I haven't tried tipping a gallon of water on it (maybe in this case it's only waterproof) but my 5 year old's full bladder was enough to give it a good review!
