The man in the family can use this opener to open coconuts, but the woman has yet to open the coconut with this tool. I'm not sure if it's because this coconut knife isn't sharp enough or because it takes more force to hammer it. Update 03/24/2020: I bought it on 04/20/2019 and now the hammer is falling apart a bit. and small black pieces come off. It lasted almost a year but now we have to buy a new one. With this hammer we opened about 3-5 coconuts every week. We bought another one in a different plastic (yellow hammer head) and it seems more durable. It was also $20 on Revain. I would advise you to look for that instead.
