Review on Dorman 925-002 Console Lid - OE FIX for Chevrolet Models: Find the Perfect Fit by Justin Gerrero

Inner Foam Thin

I installed this on a 2001 GMC Jimmy 2 door. On the old plastic, the whole interior is broken into pieces. I wanted to restore the old one but found this Dorman instead. Seems pretty easy to color if you need to match your decor. Let me state from my photos that the foam layer inside is thin. I started by taking apart all the plastic inside (small screws). I found some pieces of packing foam I had at home. You can try memory foam or styrofoam, but what you use should be thicker and more durable. You can't increase the thickness much on the inside as it will be difficult to put the armrest "cover" back onto the plastic cover inside. At the moment it is much stiffer and holds up better than the old one. Pretty expensive for what it was but you get most of the stuff you need anyway. Dorman discounted the inner foam so I'm deducting a star.
