Review on ๐ŸŽง Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black): Immersive Sound Experience & Stylish Design by Josh Gerhardt

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product just got better.

I already have my third pair of these (the previous two didn't disappoint, I just wanted more for different uses). The sound quality is EXCELLENT, they are comfortable all day long. They also go in and out of your ears very quickly and easily. People complain about the short cord, but it's perfect if you're using the device in a shirt pocket or on a bracelet, a very clean setup without a bunch of cords snagging on things. They used to come with a simple extension cord and that was a problem because the extra weight was pulling out the left earcup. NOW they come with an extension cord that works with your phone, including an answer button and most importantly, a spring clip that you can clip to your clothing. PERFECT! no more pulling on the left ear. It's amazing to be able to listen to an MP3 file on your phone in very high quality and then just press a button to answer the call. Only downside: the reply button could have been bigger and more tactile, sometimes it's a bit hard to know if you pressed it all the way. I play drums in a band and these headphones don't have the isolation needed for that. I use Shure E2C in this application, their isolation is definitely much better than Sony's, but Sony has significantly better sound quality. Shuras are more efficient, they offer longer battery life, but I only use them for drumming, riding a motorcycle or working with a lawn mower. Besides, it's all Sony! I haven't had any issues with durability, in fact I find them VERY durable. I have abused mine and they have not let me down. Meanwhile, the cord on Shures will rot in about a year (I've had three sets). Yes, on Sony sometimes an earphone stopped working, it was always due to a buildup of wax, it's very easy to fix with a toothpick. In three or four years of use with three pairs of these headphones I have never experienced a power outage. I would highly recommend these headphones.

Pros
  • High power, light weight neodymium magnets; PET cone extends bass and frequency response
Cons
  • Sad package
