Review on πŸ“» Enhanced Performance: President Electronics New Virginia Magnetic Mount CB Radio Antenna (formerly New York UP) by Joshua Mejia

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If the antenna is keeping you from installing the radio, look no further!

If you give this antenna less than 5 stars, that's because you either have no idea about CB (or radio in general) or have set everything wrong. This antenna will never perform as well as a large whip or fiberglass antenna, but you should be aware that it only holds a 20" antenna. You can create any electrical length you want, but on the receiving end, physical length is what matters. So if you don't want a large whip antenna for aesthetic reasons or you can't have one because of garages, then this is the antenna for you. I installed this on my dad's F150 today. I use it with a President Bill radio and an RM Italy KL203P amplifier. The amp runs about 100 watts and has a preamp so it boosts reception a bit. Today I had a crystal clear conversation with a man who was in sight 2.5 miles away. I would say without a preamp this would be about the best you can get from this antenna but chances are if you are looking at an antenna like this it is all you need. For comparison, I used a Larsen NMO27B in front of this antenna and spoke to a guy 12 miles away. This antenna is a whip antenna with a base load of 49 inches, which is two and a half times the length of this antenna. I would say with the preamp you can expect 8 miles in good conditions on this antenna. Also, my SWR was 1.3:1 on channel 1, 1.5:1 on channel 40 and 1.1:1 on channel 19. Amazing for such a short antenna, super amazing for such a short antenna on a magnet.

Pros
  • Type: 1/4 shaft; Impedance: 50 ohms
Cons
  • I'll get back to you later
