Review on KidKraft Austin Wooden Toy Box/Bench: Safe and Stylish Storage Solution for Kids (White, Ages 3+) by Rene Carrell

Poor Design Pneumatic Lid Post

The toy box looks great, but I found three problems with it: 1) The cheap wood it's made of is one of the causes of problem #32) Just those Air struts are enough to open wide, leaving the lid about 2/3 open, aggravating problem #3.3) The toy box can only be opened to an angle of about 45 degrees without pulling out the lid's pneumatic struts who keep the door open . My 28 kilos at the time. Daughter opened the lid, then the jambs broke - the screws came right out of the lid, although securely fastened (my budget meant I had a very extensive and successful experience assembling such relatively cheap furniture). Most adults, let alone small children, will not consistently remind themselves that the lid of their toy box should only be opened gently and only about two-thirds of the way through normal frantic play. 4) When the racks are not in use, the cover will not stay open when pushed all the way back. 5) I'll have to try placing the racks somewhere else or build some sort of bar or mechanism to hold the lid open.

Pros
  • Available in White, Natural, Honey, Cherry, Espresso, Rose and Vanilla. Safety loops on the lid prevent young fingers from getting caught
Cons
  • Hardly ever
