I used this to connect a mandolin to my speaker system. The mandolin had an old Barcus Berry pickup that could accept a 3.5mm mono jack. This cable connects to a Barcus Berry on one end and my instrument amp (standard 1/4" jack or "guitar" cable) on the other end. The cable feels strong and durable while still providing enough flexibility for on-stage use. The plugs snap in and are held securely in the device plugs. The plugs are molded onto the cable and have sufficient strain relief so that the cable does not kink. I think this will work with longer use. The next step for me (because I'm local) would be to fabricate my own, using solid metal connectors on the ends, soldering on the connectors myself, and making sure to have enough shrink tubing to avoid kinks and strain relief. I would advise you to just buy an extra one in reserve!
