Review on πŸ’§ Pro Products Rust Out Water Softener Cleaner - Ultimate Solution for Rust Buildup Removal, Iron Elimination, and Extended Softener Life! by Nicole Thomas

Works great, a few words of caution below

It's great! We have enough iron in our water, which is why my hair turns orange in the shower (I have blonde hair). The shower turns yellow and we get that nasty smell of sulfur from the pipes when the washing machine is running (from iron-fixing bacteria - bacteria that use iron for energy and release sulfur compounds - right, that smell when the bacteria farts). The tubes exiting the water softener, containing water to be treated and containing virtually no insoluble iron, were colored yellow. It disappeared and became clear after the fabric softener ran through this thing a few times. The smell of sulfur from microscopic teeth was gone. Didn't notice any new spots. Apparently I don't need as much as advertised (particularly for dishwashing/laundry at our second location which doesn't have a water softener). I divided by a quarter to halve the recommended amount for dishwashing. As others have pointed out, you do NOT want to breathe in the dust that comes from watering. This is very bad (even with a dust mask). I'll try to put it in a container where I can scoop it out instead of dumping it out so there's less dust. Also, it's REACTIVE, so be careful. The directions say to mix it with cold water (and don't warn about reactivity) and pour it into a water softener. Even though I used bottled water (I thought she wouldn't react) it turned into a kind of volcano and overflowed my container. The overflow consisted of partially dissolved crystals that stained my wood finish. So when mixing it up, use a large bowl or bucket on a surface that won't stain (this was fine on granite and in a sink).

Pros
  • Manufacturer: Pro Products
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
