Review on ๐Ÿฅ• Tribest SW-2020 Slowstar - Vertical Slow Juicer, Mincer & Cold Press Masticating Juice Extractor by Shahed Cleveland

Overall a great juicer and a HUGE improvement over the Jack LaLanne. Very happy!

Overall I am very happy with this juicer. I have an old Jack LaLanne juicer and was ready to try a masticatory juicer, but wasn't ready to switch to a horizontal juicer for two reasons: primarily the size of my storage space and not wanting to push the food too hard. In comparison, Jack juices quickly and has large sprouts so little prep is required, but the juice yield of the greens is low, the pulp is moist and the high RPM/heat/oxidation is probably consuming nutrients. I made two juices before writing this - carrot, apple, lemon and apple, fennel, spinach, cucumber, lemon. Pros: - Fairly easy to assemble. I watched the video as part can be a bit confusing but once you get the hang of it it's really easy. - All products perfectly finished, even carrots and fennel. I didn't cut the carrots at all and the snail bites a bit when pulling down. No push! Fennel stalks are like celery on steroids and they did a great job too. - Almost no pressure! It sucked in everything at once, except for a few slices of apple, which were so light they rested on top, and the snail tossed them easily. As soon as I added anything at the top, they went down. Less urgent than Jack! I seem to have used the green juicing plunger twice. The pulp is DRY. Very dry. Much better than Jack! - The juice yield of the spinach was impressive. Because the shell is transparent, you can see how much you're getting of each cool item. Fun! I never made spinach juice with Jack because it was a waste of food you had so little. - Most cleaning is easy (see cons). - The dropper is AMAZING! What a great invention. No more swapping cups under the spout to catch drips, tipping over the car to pour them all out, etc. A minor touch, but I love it! Less mess. Although the shoot was smaller than Jack's, it didn't require all that much preparation. Instead of quartering the apples, I cut them into 8 pieces. I was afraid I hated that part of the juicer, but it's ok. Glad I didn't jump on Kuwing with my mouth wide open! No problem like I thought. - Came with a good (albeit small) filter. The amount of pulp is ok. I strained the carrot juice because the pulp is a bit firmer but not the green juice. Just a preference. - Takes up about the same space as a blender. Ideal! But there are many details that must be adhered to. I can't wait to try the Frozen Banana Grinder! Cons: - Screen cleaning takes about 5 minutes. All other parts are easy to clean, but the screen is slow to clean. Not difficult to clean. only slowly. Jack was the same, but worse because Jack's screen was much larger. I believe all juicing screens have this problem. The bristles of the included cleaning brush are too soft to be effective. So what. I used my regular kitchen brush. Plastic jugs look nice, but they're not great for pouring juice. The spout is not sharp enough and the juice squirts everywhere. (I also saw it in a YouTube video, so it wasn't just me.) That's okay thoughโ€”you can use anything to catch the juice. I'm going to use my large Pyrex glass measuring cup. Too bad they can't contain something decent. This didn't seem to affect anything so it might not be a problem, but I'm not sure if it's user error or normal. UPDATE: I only pulled out the slug, not the whole case with the slug in it. It's easier to do the whole bowl with your fingers BUT it still requires a very good jerk. - When it's done, there will still be some pulp in the pulp shoot that you need to squeeze out. A perfectly curved tool is included and it's easy, but if you lose the tool it can be inconvenient. I thought the water pressure would be enough to push it out, but because the pulp is so dry it gets stuck in there. No big deal, just curious. I think it's just a design result? Cleaning takes about 30 seconds or less. Overall I like it compared to my Jack! Today I will sell it. :) I'd love to test this against an Omega vertical juicer out of curiosity, but I'd definitely buy the Slowstar again! I'm looking forward to picking up my juicing habit again! UPDATE: I put frozen bananas in the grinder attachment and made "ice cream". HEAVEN. So good! My kids thought it was regular banana ice cream. Can't wait to try other fruits. Also, quite a bit of foam will form at the top of the juice. I thought chewing was supposed to reduce this, but no. I'm still happy with it and would have given 5 stars if the snail was easier to remove.
