I have a DELL R710 that already has three 15K SAS drives and I need more storage space that shouldn't be as fast. With five bays available, I ordered (5) one 2.5" SAS/SATA hard drive tray for a Dell G176J PowerEdge R710 T410 T610 T710 R815 and then ordered five of these drives. A drive attached to the tray (NOTE: Screw the drive where it says SAS, not SATAu) and plug it into the server while it was powered off. I booted up, went into the Perc Raid controller, saw the drives and added a new RAID5. it's like a new data store. Because there were 5 disks, my IOPS are higher than using only 3, and disk latency is minimal. In real applications I ran 5 Windows 2008 R2 virtual machines on it and three virtual desktops and no complaints from users. .so five stars and two thumbs up!
