I have one from Macy that makes bread 5 inches wide. Although the size of this gadget seems sufficient, the outer size was it. Interior width is 1/4" less than 5". This is the second one I've tried. They should be compact, easy to wash and dry. My last one has everything except the guides in the middle are flexible. I felt like I was in a samurai training school whenever I used it. I can make perfect slices if I don't twist the knife. This is a visual guide only, not the direction of the knife. So it seems perfect. There is only one knife slot and the plastic is hard. Although my bread knife wasn't sharpened very often, the knife just didn't leave a mark on my last cut of plastic. The plastic is like that.
