Review on Enhance Trail Camera Signal Range with SPYPOINT CA-01 πŸ“Ά Cellular Antenna Signal Booster - 15-Foot Cable and Mounting Bracket Included by Kevin Witherspoon

Improvement for remote locations with poor cellular signal

We have our first security camera (SpyPoint LINK-SV). It is used in a very remote area with dense forest where the cellular signal is weak. Oh, and it's more than 10 hours from our house. It was quite difficult to find a surveillance camera. The built in solar power was a bonus. Having a high capacity internal lithium ion battery as a backup in case the solar system runs out is a great feature. The possibility of connecting an external (passive, i.e. currentless) antenna is great. Following the advice I found, I installed the CA-01 on the end of a PVC pipe. I have three sections so I can extend the antenna 15 feet, as well as the highest possible altitude in the air. 15 feet of PVC can bend, so I placed nylon cord (attached to the PVC) in three different places. This nylon rope is also 15 feet long. Using this cable I was able to securely tie a cable from the top, middle and bottom of the PVC to the tree where the camera was mounted. Verizon signal strength varies from zero to 4 bars on Android and Apple phones. With the CA-01 antenna, our game camera changes the signal strength from 50% to 100%. I read a review that some people don't see much of a difference using the CA-01. However, having the antenna almost 20 feet higher than the camera antenna certainly helped a lot in my deployment. Now we can enjoy photos of our country (10+) sent to us wirelessly. Thanks to SpyPoint for this option. Pros: - light weight - long (15ft) cable - reasonable price - small size - installation flexibility Cons: - no yes size and thickness is also a strange indicator. I'm happy with the size and thoughtfulness to keep 5 star cords from stretching too much. I don't see the value of 1-5 stars for this.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
