I bought this to display and care for bonsai (miniature) trees. The rotating mechanism is very stable and thin enough not to be distracting. Also reduces "tipping" or placing heavier items on top of the product. This should be useful for many purposes. The bamboo disc is well designed - thick enough but not too thick or heavy. Beautiful grain and well finished beveled edges. You will find bamboo to be a very versatile wood with excellent properties including water resistance due to its very smooth surface without the large pores found in many other woods. Bamboo is also an incredibly durable wood, albeit relatively light. TIP >> I often treat the finish with pure almond oil to keep it looking nice and waterproof. I also squeeze the liquid from the vitamin E capsules in almond oil. It provides an antioxidant effect on the wood surface. (I learned this with wooden Irish whistles * flutes). It's hard to beat good bamboo!
