Called DefTech and they said the problem was with my new Pioneer receiver. Both towers will clap when going into standby (shutdown) mode. The center channel is a CS9060, also from DefTech, which also has a built-in subwoofer but doesn't pop. I'm still waiting for the company to contact me about replacing them with turrets that have internal amps that WORK. That defect aside, the speakers are sick and seem like they're worth their money's worth. You only need ones that do not flap so that they are durable and do not startle the dog during quiet times.
