Review on πŸ“Έ Enhance Your Photography and Videography with CowboyStudio Triple Hot Shoe Light and Sound Bracket with Umbrella Holder, Mount J by Phillip Hoover

Doesn't meet my needs but is reasonably priced

I've relied on CowboyStudio products for the past year (they make products, they don't make them). I think their verification process is pretty good. However, this product just didn't meet my specific needs due to the design. I wanted to use it to make a "speedlight gun" similar to the Lastolite LL LU2125 Brolly Grip I've tried before (I also reviewed the product on Revain). . The first problem I had was that when mounting a camera (also tested) on the pistol grip with a bolt (not included btw) the whole rig became unstable (pocketwizard and Nikon SB-900). I even added just a small umbrella to one, the whole solution became useless. I just couldn't tighten the clamp on the bolt properly. Despite my experience, this is a good umbrella mount for traditional basic needs. The processing quality is OK, but not comparable with eg Manfrotto. The highlight of build quality is the all-metal cold-shoe clamping system, while the downside is the threads on the bolts, which can quickly become exposed if over-tightened. The difference in price should be a clear indicator of build quality. For advanced hobbyists, this product should prove itself to be good and should last at least a year or two with normal use. If you want "lifetime" braces, you'll have to make them all out of metal and pay a lot more. Please note this product does not come with brass bolts which are required for assembly.
