Every time Brother customizes the machine it gives it a new model number so the PE535 is basically the same as the PE525 except the LCD screen is a bit bigger and you have 10 more patterns built in. PE535 is embroidery. only one car. If you want to sew clothes, blankets, tablecloths, etc. for embroidery, you will also need a sewing machine. In my opinion PE535 is of very limited use unless you are sure you only want to do small embroidery and not sew. I have a Brother SE-600, a combination machine that is very similar in features and price. This is a good entry level car. I don't know of any machine that can do all that. I have a Brother ULT machine that does large prints and margins. I have a Pfaff Quilt-Pro, which is best for quilting, and a couple of Singer machines, which are the most reliable for long quilting cycles. I have a few machines in my sewing workshop and the rest in my workshop. The PE535 is made for when I need a monogram, label or small design. It's easy to set up and easy to use. You need a flash drive. I use the PNY brand. If you're new to embroidery, you'll probably be surprised at the expense that comes with a hobby. You can buy a larger frame from Brother ($75) or get Embroidex's SA434 replacement frame for less than $25. I found the hoop to be very durable and easy to use. Yarn can get expensive. "Collections" is probably a better deal. I have Maderia chests which contain most of the dyes and I replace individual spools when they run out. I also like the Sulky brand. You need bobbin thread. The kit comes with three coils pre-wound, but I hate ending up in the middle of a design. I bought Brother pre-wound reusable bobbins (PWB250). Now is not the time to skimp on the "comparable" part. Even the quietest voice coil can ruin your entire project. Unless you embroider primarily on denim or canvas, do you need tear-off, tear-off or washable fleeces. Each of them has its own use.
