Revainrating 4 out of 5

A small pluggable fluorescent lamp for hard-to-reach places.

My search for small fluorescent lights to accent the top of a cabinet found this one. So far I have installed 6 of them in 2 different projects. Pros: + Free shipping when you buy mine. + Low power consumption. Uses a 4 watt F4T5 bulb.+ Instant on, no hum (quiet).+ Very slim, thin design, approximately 8 inches long.+ Good light output.+ Can be plugged into similar stock lights and comes with an 18- Customs lamp supplied. Connection cable . + Supplied with fixing material.+ Supplied with a warm white fluorescent lamp installed in the luminaire. Disadvantages: - They are expensive - Replacement fluorescent tubes are expensive - The mounting hardware provided is not very easy to use. - The 18" lead wires were too short for my project so I had to lengthen them. - Comes with the warm white fluorescent bulb installed. I don't like warm white fluorescent bulbs so I installed a cool white fluorescent bulb. Final comments: I won't use the warm white fluorescent bulb Downgrading as it's a personal preference I've lowered my rating for the following reasons: β–ͺ The price seems high for such a small unit β–ͺ Replacement of the F4T5 fluorescent lamp, tubes are 1/2 the price of this fixture β–ͺ The electronic ballast in se lights generate line noise which may be a problem for some as I note below β–Ί Updated February 7, 2013 β–ͺ If you have X-10 automation devices in your home these lights can cause problems! small amount of linear noise that can add up and interfere with the correct operation of the X-10 modules I mu You just need to install a noise filter on a chain of 3 of these lamps. :(β–Ί Update - March 26, 2013 β–ͺ I installed 6 of these bulbs at home. I replaced 3 fluorescent bulbs in different fixtures this month and the bulbs were installed this month! I bought a box of cool white F4T5 bulbs on eBay & , I'm not currently downgrading. β–Ί Update November 24, 2013 β–ͺ I've checked all the cheap bulbs I've bought on eBay and the new, more expensive bulbs seem to be better. Months + brighter light output :) β–Ί Update - November 18, 2013 March 2014 β–ͺ New, better quality replacement fluorescent tubes made a difference and I decided to increase the product rating to 4 out of 5. :)β–Ί Update December 2nd 2015 β–ͺ No lamp failures and the fluorescent tubes last almost a year which is not bad for my application which involves a lot of on/off cycles. .

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
