I bet I use this fiber optic cable in a way few do. I have a rural property with a well. My pump room has pipes that I need to keep warm. Like most people, I insulate and use a 100 watt light bulb to provide a small amount of heat. But constantly checking to see if the lightbulb has burned out is painful. But the consequences of a burned out light bulb and broken pipes are great. So I ran a bundle of fiberglass strands from the light source to a small hole in the top of the outer wall. I see the glow when I drive past mornings and evenings. I no longer have to trudge through the dark to check a lightbulb, I can see it from my car!
