Fat dripping onto hot coils creates smoke - that's just the way it is. They try to pretend there's no smoke in three ways. Firstly, it just doesn't get as hot - therefore less smoke spreads over a longer period of time. But I hope you don't mind the extra cooking time. Second, a fan that blows smoke around - of course it looks less smoky, but it just dissolves into your air more transparently. Look at a bright light two rooms away and you'll see it's everywhere. Third, underneath is a tiny tray of water. It can trap a small amount of smoke, but it just makes cleaning harder than anything else. We tried it three times and carefully read the instructions. The hotter we got, the more smoke came out. At one point we thought there might be a fire and provided a fire extinguisher. To be honest it's confusing how they get so many rave reviews. We returned it.
