It's strong enough we use it to keep our small dog out of the bedroom. It is durable and the dog cannot go over the sides or over the top. The only thing I don't like is that the toggle closure on the top is not that easy to open. I understand that it is difficult for a child. Installation was quick, I didn't even have to read the instructions. I just saw a note in large text stating that the gap between the gate and latch was not a manufacturing defect and it became apparent that the top needed to be tightened to get it to engage properly. So do top and then align bottom and do bottom. Then make sure the gate closes tightly and you're done. Takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish. Good product! I'll buy another one for the bottom of the stairs.
