Good bungler. I am very satisfied with raw wood. The paint has certainly rubbed off and ended up in food or drinks during use. I've rubbed it with edible mineral oil a few times to protect it, like cutting boards and wooden knife handles. This will emphasize the texture of the wood well and protect it from stains. With gentle handling (don't soak in water, don't put in the dishwasher, just gentle cleaning) this should last a while.
