This arm is amazingly strong and well constructed (I only say that because most cheap products like this don't offer enough weight support or durability, or aren't meant for a variety of uses). Mine sits to the side of my desk, neatly out of the way, but when I want to place my laptop in front of me, it twists my arm straight around and gently guides my laptop to a comfortable spot. When I'm done, I just push it against the wall and it conveniently slides out of the way. I would say realistically, with the way I set it up, I can move about a foot and a few inches from where it is "to the left" of where I want to use it. However, it can be slightly larger for more specific needs, especially if the base mount takes advantage of the ability to drill a hole in the table rather than clamp it to the side. The device has various configuration options. The laptop tray can be adjusted flat enough to sit on, or at a more acute angle so that half of the laptop's keyboard is vertical at an angle of about 45 degrees. Additionally, as previously mentioned, the base can be manipulated so it can theoretically be placed anywhere on the table that the underside of the table is accessible for a nut and bolt, or clamped anywhere that has a clearance of about 2 inches more . horizontal space around the edges of the table. One very minor complaint, but one that won't stop you from buying another one, is that the 'locking screw' on the plate that connects to the laptop's mounting platform is slightly different than it should be as it is can be quite difficult to expect a perfect even tilt of the top link affecting the fit of the laptop platform ie flat or tilted left or right. , fully extended in one direction from base to tip, could provide a perfectly level platform. However, if it were "half-folded" so that the middle knuckles of the arms were folded to the side to allow for a shorter reach, the platform would tilt slightly in a similar direction to the metacarpal joint. It's barely noticeable, and again it's likely why there's some movement around the locking screw on this plate, as the platform can be adjusted any time it appears to be off. The complaint here actually stems from the fact that most of the time it needs to be adjusted every time the hand moves forward or backward to keep the laptop level. Other Notes: At first I was a bit confused about a few parts. For example, the plastic ring in the mounting portion of the mount had to be loosened with a screw before installing it on the desktop mount base, and it almost looked like a disposable item for shipping. I would buy it again or recommend it to my friends. It's durable and strong and I trust it with my devices.
