When I finally needed reading glasses, I also knew I needed a buying strategy. I wasn't in the habit of people who have worn glasses for years constantly monitoring them as an extension of the body they really are. I expected to lose it, accidentally destroy it, and just forget to have them on hand when I need them. So, buying a few pairs at a low price seemed like the right way to get started, at least initially. I bought my first order about eight months ago. I've since lost a pair and damaged, though not completely destroyed, another by sitting on them while they were deployed. The cost equation is everything I was hoping for when choosing this product. Not only are they cheap, but they are so comfortable that I'm not shy about wearing them. A friend of mine, who has worn glasses for much longer than I have, commented that he also initially opted for cheap plastic glasses. and then showed me his $300 German metal goggles with glass lenses. His strategy, he says, is to avoid plastic lenses because they're harder to keep clean and tidy, and in addition to the benefits he expends on that quality, he gets enough motivation not to lose or ruin them. I heard about this strategy before applying it to pens, but I think it only works for people who care enough about owning items that are some kind of gem ie. which primarily serve as a status signal about their wealth. I don't care enough about such things to remember it. I would only have costly accidents and episodes of forgetfulness - like losing my phone or smashing its screen by dropping it on a tile or concrete floor. I can't say from experience whether glass is getting lighter. I've found that using a microfiber "cloth" made from recycled plastic, which is typically sold for long-term use on large cleaning jobs, rather than the very thin ones advertised for lens cleaning, works. So far I haven't had any issues with lens scratches and at $300 vs $6 I'd rather replace cheap lenses as needed when it matters most. I consider them consumables and it makes sense to buy them in bulk. I've just received an order for a replacement set of three pairs at the same price per pair as my original order of four pairs.
