This flashlight is very efficient. For example, I was tired of ordering 10W LEDs as if that wattage was an accurate way of judging the brightness of their LEDs. Then, when I tried them out, I found that 8 of those watts dissipated into heat, and on top of that the color turned into a crappy spooky bluish white that was just plain annoying to look at in any brightness. When I got these I was really happy to see how much light it puts out and how cool it stays when it's on. Personally, I'd recommend additional cooling in certain circumstances if you're running it above 30W or so in warm weather. I don't think it will necessarily burn out, but all I know is that the colder you can run an LED, the longer it will last. You can run it directly from a car battery, but I'd try monitoring the temperature for a few minutes to see how much heat it's generating. If you are running it directly from the battery I would definitely make sure the machine is not running as that will increase the voltage a bit and make your LED a lot hotter. You can use some relatively long thin wires to limit the power draw, or better yet, you can use a DC power supply. Any LED that puts out that much light needs to be monitored for overheating, but don't let that stop you from ordering this LED. You will be very impressed with the quality and brightness, and the price is second to none!
