Review on ๐Ÿ”ฆ TORCHSTAR Ultra Thin Recessed Downlight: Certified Industrial Electrical Lighting Components for Enhanced Illumination by Bobby Posner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I've installed 19 of them so far.

of 20. The last option is a hassle to get powered but I probably will soon. I love these things. I've done 11 in both of my garages at my rental homes. Two on the covered patio, two in the laundry room, three in the back room, another one in the other back room because I couldn't see it because of the kettle and boiler. Garages have closed ceilings. I plug the holes and run the wire to them, putting the box through the hole with a short hand screwdriver. Then turn on the light, make sure it works, and snap the spring clips into place. Did! For unfinished ceilings like utility and laundry rooms, I used particle board or plywood and zipped a hole in a 17.5" x 12" piece, routed wiring and installed a box, snapped the light into the panel and used drywall screws to secure to mount it ceiling, then connected the light. Ready! I did all this last year and they all work. I'm using the 20 for a portable flashlight on a cord at the moment, it's handy. I can't say anything about durability yet. I hope to live off it for more than ten years, but we'll see. One minor downside is that the clips fit .5" drywall, are a little tight for .625" drywall, and I'm not sure they'll work with that. Well, 0.75 inches. We may have made a .75" piece of chipboard, but we used scrap metal, so I don't remember. To create a jagged looking shadow along the wall, like with an inset pitcher, this isn't the light for you. In short, I give those two thumbs up. They allowed me to properly illuminate garages where for years I had made do with two china plates. It changes the whole nature of the garage. They also allowed me to really light up poorly lit rooms with china plates in about 2 hours per room. They also look good, are cheap and use little power. I saw a house where they were used in the kitchen and hallways and they looked great, I have no need to do it in one of mine right now.
