Review on πŸ’‘ Satco S7342 12/20/26-Watt Medium Base 3-Way Spiral LED, 4100K, 120V, Comparable to 30/70/100-Watt Incandescent Bulb by Rusty Lyons

good lamp for special applications

I recently changed the switch on my favorite Blueprint desk lamp to a 3-way lamp, so I decided to invest in a white 3-way CFL as well , which is best suited as a desk lamp. I would have preferred an LED but there is no true 3-strip LED yet (they can change color but not light intensity) so I decided to invest in this Satco. After years of prematurely replacing Feit consumer bulbs, I wanted to try a commercial branded bulb. and this Staco did not disappoint. This lamp is longer and seems more solid, which is appropriate for a lamp like mine that often moves on its anchor. 4100K is the perfect white bleached paper, not yellow like 2700K or blue like 5000K. The difference from 30 to 70 watts is very noticeable, while 100 watts turns on in 2 seconds and is more distinguishable from 70 after the lamp warms up in a minute. That's fine with me as I basically want 30 to 70 watts of equivalent white light. Even at 100C, the glass feels cooler to the touch than most CFL lights of this intensity, which keeps my metal cap cooler (than the 23W (100W) that was replaced). I really hope this bulb lasts longer than the regular $2 Feit bulbs I buy at Costco. If so, I see I would replace all of my future lightbulbs with this brand - the Satco website sells individual lightbulbs at a wholesale price with a flat shipping fee of $10 per order. SAD Note: If you're trying to get more simulated sunlight during the winter months, be aware that this daylight-like bulb at 100 watts can put out 1600 lumens on your desk within a square foot, so if you keep shining this light during your 8- Pointing it at you and your desk surface from less than a meter away every hour of the workday will exceed the 10,000 lux dose that many people seem to need to stay in a good mood. So the light doesn't blind or distract you, simply position it behind or perpendicular to your seating position to illuminate you and your workspace. UPDATE: After using it for less than an hour a day for 2 years, the three-way electronics in the base failed. It only works as a single 'light path' and I am very disappointed that I have to replace it with a high intensity LED lamp with some sort of separate dimming solution. The 3-way light is plugged into a surge-protected outlet and has never been misused, so the manufacturer's usual excuses just don't apply here.
