It's far from perfect, but for the price and the niche it occupies as a standalone stereo I can't find anything better. Even though I've increased the budget, there really isn't much in the way of built-in speakers. The biggest problem I had was that the VHF channel is quite noisy/disruptive (not static which is due to bad antenna position or reception, but digital chirping that is noticeable at certain frequencies. The speakers themselves sound ok for what they are, they're a lot louder than the built in phone speaker and they even manage to bang the radio against the case to possibly tape it off later. In my situation I replaced the 12 volts under the radio. Installation was easy, all I needed was a mounting box and an antenna. The trailer only has a power and ground wire, no ignition wire, so I added a switch on the back of the junction box to mimic a car's ignition wire. Without this, you would have to tie the red and yellow wires together, which keeps the radio always powered (same as switching, but when the switch is off the radio only pulls enough to keep the time and station presets, not lit). , but at least you can put it to sleep mode by holding down the power/mute button. The USB connection also reads the WAV format. Bonus points out that it's smaller and neater than the original stereo. Also, I can confirm that the audio is stereo and not dual mono. At this price, that was my problem. All in all I would recommend it, if only because it seems to stand out from the rest and has no competition other than the poorly rated Pyle.
