JKCOVER Storage Dash Tray vs JessicaAlba Fuse Box Coin Container Internal Storage Tray

I was looking for something to add extra storage to my 2021 Subaru Forester when I came across these Fuse Box storage containers. Having had a similar storage compartment in the same location on my 2011 Lexus ES and 2001 Toyota Avalon, I know how handy they are, so I decided to order both and compare. Color: Both were darker black than the dashboard. in my Forester, which has a slight bluish cast. JessicaAlba (God, it's hard to type without laughing and wondering about the upcoming lawsuit) was a little closer, but not close enough to really make a difference. (See photo #1 - JessicaAlba top left, JKCOVER top right and Subaru's stock fuse box door below) Corn. But who will notice? You have to lean under the dash to really see the difference. (See photo #1 again: JessicaAlba top left, JKCOVER top right, and Subaru's stock fuse box door below) Installation: None of these fit perfectly. The JessicaAlba hinged clamps were too tight, making it impossible to install as is (more on that later). The front of the JKCOVER had a sharp curve, definitely larger than the stock fuse box cover (see photo #2). This caused the JKCOVER to bounce off the Forester's dashboard, creating a gap on either side and preventing the latch on the left from fully engaging. In comparison, the front of the Jessica Alba closely matched the shape of the stock fuse panel cover (see photo #3, which also shows that the hinge clips are "closer" than the standard fuse panel). Extras: JessicaAlba came with no extras, not even a fuse panel diagram sticker on the back (which is on the standard fuse panel cover). JKCOVER, on the other hand, was brimming with extras: First, it was a pack of about 10 different backup plan stickers, including one that exactly matched the sticker on the panel cover, through to the ID. Code in the same place as the original sticker. I suspect the different decals are for other Subaru models with different fuse panel locations. Second, JKCOVER includes a written promise to create a custom storage compartment if the color, texture, or size doesn't quite match what's in your Subaru. even including creating a custom fuse panel diagram sticker if none of the included stickers work. The insert didn't say how much it would cost (so no promises to make it free). I wasn't inclined to check it out as I suspect it could take weeks or months to find out if they can actually pull it off. with a challenge - can I customize the fit of each item to fit my Forester properly? Since both are plastic (some sort of nylon?) and I have a really good heat gun, I figured I could adjust both to fit. Of the two, I liked that the JKCOVER came with a sticker with a fuse panel diagram that matched my car, but having to adjust the curvature of the entire top edge of the front panel made me wonder - it was possible, but definitely difficult since I had to get the entire top edge. aligned so that there are no gaps. JessicaAlba presented a simpler problem - all I had to do was undo the two hinge clips just enough to fit over the bottom edge of the fuse box opening. I also suspected it wouldn't take long to remove the fuse panel diagram sticker from the stock fuse panel cover and transfer it to Jessica Alba. With this in mind, I decided to modify JessicaAlba. Using the curved tip of the hair dryer set at 400 degrees, I heated the hinge mounts for about 5 minutes (see photo #4). This made them so soft that I was able to easily open them (very gently) with a pair of pliers. After roughly matching the bend of the hinge clips to the bend and opening width of the hinge clips on the stock panel, I attempted to install the Jessica Alba in the car. Success! Now it was perfect. I then used a heat gun at 500 degrees and gradually (over the course of about 2-3 minutes) moved it over the surface of the standard decal to soften the decal's adhesive (see photo #5). After removing the Jessica Alba from the car (easy to remove), I carefully peeled the sticker off the standard door, placed it on the back of the Jessica Alba, and reattached the Jessica Alba. Ready! In the end, none of the items fit without workshop tech, so it's hard to give anything more than 1 star for JessicaAlba (not at all fitting) or 2 stars for JKCOVER (kinda fitting, with spaces). ). However, if you are willing to follow the process outlined above, JessicaAlba is a great fit.
