The design of the heater and the overall appearance are good. Two different heating levels - that's what bribed me with this purchase. After using it for a few days it will keep your coffee warm, but if you want steam from it like it's coming from a pot you'll be disappointed. Unless of course it keeps the cup warm, but certainly not hot. I've tried this with several different mugs, from thick and thin ceramic mugs to simple metal mugs, the results have been the same. this will keep him warm, but certainly not very hot.
