I use this in a 20 gallon aquarium with my axolotl and it works great! I used to use sponge filters but found that they get very dirty and don't keep the water clean. This is ideal as it is air powered like sponge filters so it does not cause stress to the animal but also allows a variety of filter materials to be used. Mine has a small mesh bag at the top with charcoal, bio ceramic rings and a filter thread. The filter thread gets dirty after 2-3 weeks, so I change it. This filter has made my aquarium crystal clear and I love it! I've had to do fewer water changes since I bought it. I had no problems with it and neither did my axolotl. Sometimes he sits on it and rests.
