The best part is that it's open source which means you can modify as per your needs without any issue at all. It also provides good features like replication etc so if one node goes down its easy to restore from another server or copy of data stored in other nodes. There are some minor issues with respect to performance but I think they will get resolved soon since this product belongs to Apache foundation itself. We use solr for searching our products catalogs. This helps us to index our website pages quickly when we add new content/pages and thus improves user experience.
