3 Months Update: After using this kettle almost every day for 3 months I wanted to correct my initial thoughts and reviews. The kettle worked great. It was reliable and worked consistently. Then everything started to improve. I'm not sure if it was the cork that started breaking or the heating element itself. I'm inclined to think the heating element is the culprit. After the kettle is plugged in for a few minutes, I notice the light suddenly goes out. I swap the plug and the light comes on again. This is becoming a regular struggle and has even blown my outlet fuse. When I hold the plug I see the light flicker and then go out. This is where I ended up with the kettle before causing a major problem with my truck's electrical system. It shouldn't come to that. As mentioned above, the kettle worked reliably for the first 3 months and I had no problems. Now it's a headache trying to keep walking until the water warms up. Too bad because I really liked this setup but it's time to move on. I no longer recommend this product for long term use as it may cause a dangerous situation with your vehicle's outlet. You also need to be careful where you place the plug when you first unplug it - it can melt or catch fire as the metal parts are very hot. After reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried about the safety. and the overall quality of this teapot. My first observation upon opening the box is that this product has decent build quality considering the price and provenance. I filled the kettle and plugged it into the truck socket with no problems. While I didn't have time to see how long it would take for the green light to come on (boiling point according to the information provided), it seemed to take less than the advertised 40-45 minutes. I used heated water to make a large bowl of instant ramen. Not only did he cook the ramen with plenty of heat for a hot soup, I had about a quarter of the water left in the kettle. I haven't had any leaks from the lid as others have posted. The remaining water in the kettle was still warm enough after the meal. So far I am very happy with the performance of this kettle and it has done the job I bought it for. I will definitely buy it again and recommend it. I'll see how it holds up over time. I would also like to make a few notes for those who may have problems with fuses and damaged sockets. Please note that this kettle requires a full 12V 120W socket. This should be provided in any newer vehicle with a "socket" but check your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm this. Also, this kettle is equipped with a fused plug (a 9A fuse that should blow before the fuse in the socket (usually 10A)). Plugging this kettle into a cigarette lighter plug will most likely blow the fuse as these sockets do not have the full 120 watt rating. This should only be an issue on older cars (again, check your owner's manual to confirm). Also, do not connect the kettle to the mains when there is no water in it, and do not empty the kettle while it is connected to the mains, as this may also blow the fuse. I read some reviews that said the cork got very hot when the water was fully heated. I haven't personally experienced this and was able to turn off the kettle without any issues or burns.
