The metal spikes have broken off at the top

My child has been wearing these boots for almost 2 months now. That's all they say, except that the metal pins that hold the tip of the laces closed at the ankle are broken. We are avid hikers and when this happens a second time on a moderate hike it is very unfortunate. We have had many Keen boots and this is the first time we have had a quality issue. Otherwise these boots live up to expectations.
