Haven't really tried all the goodies with this radio just on batteries. The sound is very good, the clarity of the channels is excellent. No problem listening to normal channels. Best of all, it picks up the weather station clearly and strongly, which is very important after we've weathered our fair share of tropical storms and hurricanes that have drained us of all energy for days/weeks. Ordinary battery powered radios were useless. It's awful not having any contact or knowledge of what's going on before and after these nightmares when you're isolated in your house and can't get the news/weather; not knowing when or if help would be on the way after one of those storms. Welcome to Florida: hot and muggy year-round, tropical storms and hurricanes a few months of the year. We have lived in many places on the East Coast and currently Central Florida and experienced this in both areas. Good that we now have this radio.
