My son got the train for his 4th birthday and it was his favorite present. He played with it non-stop for 4 days. I couldn't resist and ended up ordering a set of extra chains with derailleurs and a bridge set for them. The age on the packaging is 2-5. I think it's more like 3-6 or 3-7 years depending on the kid. At 2 years old I don't think they would have been able to plan the layout of the lanes. And (IMHO) if you keep adding track sets, the additional layout options will interest older kids. I definitely recommend these sets!
