The outdoor remote thermometer works reliably and emits a strong radio signal that can easily be picked up by the base station. The internal remote thermometers would get stuck intermittently and would continue to read the same temperature until the batteries were removed and replaced. Also, the indoor thermometers really can't handle temperatures below 32F like you have in your garage. They go out and require the battery to be removed and replaced to come back to life. The base station seems to have a much harder time picking up the radio signal from a remote indoor thermometer. The indoor remote thermometer uses 2AAA and the outdoor remote thermometer uses 2AA. I replaced the batteries with AAA lithium batteries which can give a much bigger boost. Maybe it helped. YOU MUST DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES IN THE BASE STATION while installing all batteries in the remote thermometers, and then install the batteries in the base station so that it can communicate with the remote thermometers. It's best to have everything on one table. The update time is about 16 seconds. The base station could have accepted the external remote thermometer without this process, but I never found the internal remote thermometers until I removed and reinserted the batteries in the base station. I've been using an outdoor remote thermometer for about 5 years with no problems. I recommend using an outdoor thermometer to measure the temperature, but it doesn't have a display.
